I watched in absolute bemusement last night as the former Victorian Police and Disaster Management Boss Christine Nixon Blamed everything from being obese to having a vagina as to the reasons she was vilified by the media.
This seems to be something of a habit of some people who get into strife... lets blame everything except my actions.
Christine Nixon mentioned the few women in power in Australia as an example of this vilification ... what Australia does this person live in? We have a Monarch, a Governor General, Governors, Premiers, a Member of the High Court all the pinnacles of Australian Power not using their gender as a reason for not being there.
Christine Nixon would perhaps be better served looking at her on record for why it is she was detested so... getting her hair done and going out to dinner a critical points in her leadership of crisis. It is not the fact that she is a woman or that she is fat that people critisized her it is because she did those things when citizens would expect a crisis manager to be at the helm.
Does she not acknowledge the adoration most Australians gave to Premier Bligh during the Queensland Floods? it was not because Bligh was a women that she directed the State so well, its because she did not just her job, but what the community expected of her.
Like many Australians, it is women I look up to as figures of immense ability and command intense respect from me, women like Queen Elizabeth, Margaret Thatcher, Oprah Winfrey, my own Mother and Dame Edna Everidge. Unfortunately Christine Nixon has forgotten one of the early lessons we Australians are taught in our youth, one which I think was hammered home very well by Mrs Brown, my Christian Education Teacher, that when you point the finger remember that 3 fingers point back at you.
