A recent competition had many nations in the world campaigning for their national monuments to be on the list of the 7 wonders of the world. Interestingly the Pyramids of Giza did not make the cut but have been added as 'Honerary' member to the club.
The new list involves the Christ the Redeemer Statue in Brazil, The Great Wall of China, The Mayan Ruins of Mexico, Petra in Jordan, Machu Pichu in Peru, the Taj Mahal in India and Italy's Colosseum (plus the Giza Pyramids). I wonder personally how Angkor Wat could be less wondrous than the Mayan ruins and the Moai of Easter Island less wondrous than the carving of Petra...but then again I haven't been to Mexico or Jordan...which goes to show its a very subjective list.
This got me thinking what are Australia's 7 wonders? Those man made marvels that makes us just star at human achievement and ask ourselves how? and why?...but mostly just WOW. At the top of the List would have to be The Sydney Opera House and its nearby Harbour Bridge.
What else is there that make you go How,Why and WOW? On my list would be....
- The Dingo Fence
- Flinders St Station, Melbourne
- Isis Downs Shearing Shed, Qld
- The Royal Exhibition Building, Melbourne
- The Federal Parliament, Canberra
- The Victoria Hotel, Goondiwindi
- Q1 Tower, Gold Coast
- Queen Victoria Building, Sydney
- The Shrine of Remembrance, Melbourne
