I am not a person to highlight a tragedy.
So instead I'll just be a person that says FOR F#*KSAKE DON'T BE STUPID IN FLOOD WATERS! Get Out and Stay Out! and do your best to ensure other people and kids stay out too.
The almost unavoidable deaths as a result of flash flooding in the Lockyer Valley are one very sad chapter of our history in Queensland, however continued deaths especially in areas where warnings have been clear by authorities and folks who have experience in that area with floods previously is something that I think is Totally Avoidable.
The La Nina event which has been well forecast. Flooding in on the Great Dividing Range meant without question that water has to go somewhere. South East Communities including Brisbane had ample warning to get their valuables, families and their neighbours and get out of flood areas.
So why have we got people risking their lives and those of rescuers heading into flood waters?
I have spoken to plenty of people who have lost houses, cars and valuables and each time the same answer.....'well I didn't think it was that bad' or something similar. Life is not something that should be thrown away. A house can be rebuilt, a car can be replaced but a life ... there is no replacement.
So I thought rather than try and warn people and tell people about the complexities of floods its best to share a video and get the message through that floods in Australia are not a fun event....and flood waters regardless of how safe they look must be avoided...after all they do go away in a few days. It is not worth losing lives for the sake of waiting it out.
