1982 MascotI was only 3 but I will never forget  Matilda's blink as she worked her way around QEII Stadium for the 1982 Commonwealth Games. The Giant Kangaroo was my first introduction to elite level sport, and all the excitement and friendliness that comes from the family of nations games.

On hearing that the Gold Coast has won the right to host the 2018 Games I felt a wonderful sense of nostalgia and excitement for my favourite sporting event to again be held here in Queensland and inspire so many all over again.

Its a funny thing, me and writing, I tend to only do it when I am happy, as if the words make the pain I feel inside cut even deeper. So I am going to force some words out and break the habit of not writing when I am unhappy.

I've been back at the farm a few days, things were intensely busy in Sydney before I left, but dad was pretty clear that he needed me here so I drove through the night and was ready for breakfast with my parents.

I adore her, she is as I often say all that I love in humanity, resilience, faith, service, charisma, self belief,humility so of course having her here in Australia has me just filled with pride.
