Today a friend of mine had to work and was unable to help her 9 year old do his Current Affairs assignment for school, so I helped out. I hope I did ok and have given an informative 2 minute speech on the topic of 'Prince William Visiting Australia'.

Prince William is currently visiting New Zealand and Australia to meet with people who were victims of the Natural Disasters of floods a cyclone and an earthquake as well as to visit families of the victims of the Pike River Mine Explosion.

He began with a visit to Christchurch, South Islands biggest city which was almost destroyed by a massive earthquake which was 6.3 on the richter scale. Many thousands of people turned out to a memorial service to hear the Prince honour those 182 people that died.

He then flew on to Queensland where he met thousands more people who have lost their homes and jobs because of Cyclone Yasi and the months of Flooding. Prince William is a Search and Rescue Helicopter Pilot so he understand what many of the people went through.

The Prince is here representing his Grandmother who is the Queen of both Australia and New Zealand. The Queen is 80 years old and is Queen of 16 countries so is very busy, so when she can't visit one of her countries one of the other Royals go for her. Because Prince William is a Search and Rescue Pilot he was the best prince to visit.

Usually when the Queen visits Australia she is met by hundreds of thousands of people, but the Prince is visiting small towns and farmers who have been hurt by the floods and the cyclone so he will not meet as many people as the Queen does, but his visit will mean a lot to those people he does meet, as he wants to tell them that they are not alone and the rest of the world does care for them.

When Prince William goes back to England, where he lives, he will get married to Kate Middleton in a few weeks. Usually Princes marry other royals but Kate is just an ordinary girl. This is the first time in a thousand years that a future king of England will marry an ordinary person.

Once he is Married to the new Princess he will have to do a lot more work for the Queen and visit many more of her people. His next trip is to Canada which like Australia and New Zealand share the same Queen.
