Today 16 years after bashing a young bloke to death in Fairfeild the murderer who stole his wallet and sand shoes. Thanks to the police using DNA evidence justice was served on the man who was taken into custody on a totally unrelated matter but gave a DNA sample which matched that he left at his earlier crime scene..on the shoes he dumped.
Also today the murderer of little Zahra Baker, her own step mother was sentenced to 20 years in prison in the USA for the shocking killing of the young girl in her care also thanks to the use of DNA evidence.
Science is a great thing especially when it can allow families to find an end chapter in their losses to vile humans who think that its justifiable to take the life of their fellow man.
I feel for families that in the first place have to deal with these terrible acts and the subsequent loss of their loved one...but what must be worse as seen by the pain on their faces over the years is the not knowing what happened or who or why.
This is so evident with the Morcombe family who have dealt with such pain and torture following the loss of their boy Daniel from a bus stop on the Sunshine Coast. Finally perhaps they too can feel some relief in getting some answers now that DNA evidence has found his remains and that police have a man in custody.
So often I would just find myself sobbing for the Morcombes and young Daniel....sobbing for the loss of family sobbing for the loss of a son. At just how a boy could be stolen in such incredible circumstances.
There is so much pain in the story of Daniels loss., I just hope that for that young boy it was not a long and tortuous experience....like his family have been dealt.
