Dr Phil tells mother not to let her son play with dolls

Dr Phil the popular Counselor on daytime TV gave the weirdest advice I think I have heard from even a TV professional ... answering a mother who was concerned about her son playing with Dolls Dr Phil suggested keeping girls toys away from the boy.

Um what?

Women are housewives, School teachers, cooks, Fashion Designers, nurses and secretaries.

Men are plumbers, Prime Ministers, Farmers, Carpenters, Accountants, Truck Drivers, Electricians and Pilots.

Come on Dr Phil really???

Kids need to be let to explore the world and their potential not boxed into what society says they must be. If a kid wants to play with a Barbie let them, it they want to play with a truck let them, how can it be beneficial to force them into a box and learn your prejudices.

A women can be a leader (we live in a Country with females taking up the roles of 3 State Premiers, a Prime Minister, 2 Governors, a Governor-General and a Sovereign) as she can be a pilot a plumber, a soldier and a farmer. Just as men can be Chefs, fashion designers, Artists, Medical practitioners, Educators and even stay at home dads. Think about this amongst the adults you know and those who have reached the heights of fame...few roles if any are gender specific.

All these roles need to be learnt in play, after all we humans are like any animal, it is our play which prepares us for adulthood and no one can deny that the greatest politicians, pilots, soldiers, chefs and teachers come from both sexes.

Let your child find its own way in life and don't try and give it mental problems by forcing it into behaviours that are unnatural....and don't take the word of Dr Phil as Gospel 'cause he has really got this one wrong.
