A couple of days ago I cracked. Maybe it was cabin fever, maybe it was being without Rosie, my little Kelpie for so long, maybe I felt useless when our farm has been flooded to the max or so bad my Brisbane friends had been doing so much for me, maybe it was a build up of medication in my system whatever the case I booked a 5am flight to Sydney.
I have had a pretty miraculous recovery, well I still can't walk, and can only use my crutches for very small distances but the bruising has gone, there is zero scaring and if you ignore the fact I've lost 11 kgs and one leg looks like a matchstick you think it happened months ago. But yeah i do stupid things and push myself and seen as though I only have one leg its not a smart move to do that..... Anyways I'm in Sydney and the first night I was here slept like a baby which is only been my second nights sleep since this all started.
It feels so good to be down here, and useful for a change. one of my best mates rang me out of the blue to see if he knew anyone that could look after his dogs while he had a well earned break in Singapore for NYE (apparently its fun there now) as bung as I am he was delighted that I was in town, so here I am in his lovely home surrounded by two beautiful black labs. Rosie maybe finishing her apprenticeship in seafaring 1000 kms away but I finally feel complete just by having these four legged bags of fun by my side.
So I really hope that you reading this also have mates around you to see the New Year and New Decade in, I certainly couldn't be happier being useful after a very very long period feeling like an ineffectual member of the NSW Labor Government.
Also if you are going out tonight remember to ensure your dogs are ok, freeze a few beef stock cubes in an old yogurt container and leave them in the dogs bowl to lick when you go out along with a kong filled with cheese or tuff plastic bottle (with any attachments removed) filled with kibble. If the do get nervous with loud noises leave them in the laundry with some wet towels on the floor (dogs cool from their feet pads) so they feel safe and don't go running with the fireworks. You can also tune your am radio into the classical music radio channels and allow you dog some distracting noise that will help calm them.
Enjoy tonight, its when we get to forget the bad things of the past year and in this case the past decade and ook forward to what we can do in both our work life, our home life and our love life.
For me I'm a lucky bastard with a beautiful home with a yard for Rosie and a great flatmate (who is also called Rosie) that I move into in a couple of days, I'm single as a farmer at a PETA Convention with a kelpie that loves me, sheep that are in fields of green and best of all thanks to my treatment from Pararescue I am now a free agent ready for what ever the new Year throws my way ;) I think this is without doubt the best position I have been in for my whole life
