I read with interest the latest crock coming from the Catholic Church, which has followed on from so many commentators in the media calling on TV shows that they disagree with to be taken of the air.

They will be….when people stop watching.

All TV like Big Brother is about popularity, votes and, in effect, ratings. So regardless of what these people want, be they the PM or the Pope, at the end of the day if enough people want something (as long as it’s legal) they’ll get it (actually same’s true even if it is illegal…but that’s another blog altogether).

So for all those people out there who can’t stand Gordon Ramsay, Big Brother or Home and Away… do what everyone else does and don’t watch it. Just like at election time, if enough people agree with you, you will get what you want.

However, something inside me says that we Australians love TV that reflects ourselves… even if it is a bit trashy.

Just look at the ratings… and hey shouldn’t the Catholic Church be more worried about its members ditching its ridiculous doctrines, rather then trying to force its judgement on the rest of us.

Or better still, follow the Anglican Church’s lead in learning from popular TV shows to reach its message out..  http://www.news.com.au/story/0,23599,23646350-13762,00.html

I think that is called getting with the programme.
