We have all seen those cringe worthy performances on the reality singing shows, and the severe deflation that those contestants get when the judges cut them down and inform them of something that they have never heard... 'You are Really Really Delusional and cannot sing'.

There is much to be said of the benefits of promoting peoples poor self esteem to ensure they have confidence; it really does help people get through life. The simple truth is it is often a good thing to give complements and assist in confidence building. You would be a heartless soul if you didn't, especially if someone has a disability of one form or another. However it really is best given with reality check and well said clarification to the situation at hand so that an ego does not get out of hand and the subject becoming delusional to their own ability which can lead to the crash and burn that is part and parcel of the Reality Talent Shows.

By the same token it is vastly damaging for people to detract when it is undue and ensure the deflation of someones self esteem. This is one of the great tragedies we see around us when people have such promise and ability yet those around them choose to always be negative and critisize them which has led to a compounding loss of confidence.

Politics has a great way of ensuring that often people of little talent but phenomenal self belief surge forward on a wave compliance from those around them....however like the victims of a reality TV these folks often crash and burn when people actually wake up to these 'Emperors with No Clothes' and cast them aside. This is the brutality of the world in which we live.  I think this has happened many times here in Australia and is even more compounded in the  US where that self Belief is backed by big dollars. Just as so many of us would know damn well that in business some people get promoted due only to their own self promotion and others stay on their own treadmill thanks to poor self belief.

Perhaps we all need a bit of a reality check every now and again....we all need a Kyle and a Todd....as well as a Danni and a Marcia.  You Got it....Balanced Opinions.
